This is a custom map for the WC3 client, created by soniggs. Day of Decision (DoD) has many aspects you may know from DotA, but there is a lot of new stuff, perhaps never been seen in other custom maps. Main difference between Dota is, that you can play this map with 12 instead of 10 players. Beyond that, there is a different condition to capture a victory for each team. While the humans have to kill every orcish lord to win the battle, the orcs have to destroy the human castle. Another point is, that every unit being part of the game belongs to one of the 12 players. The advantages having it this way are, that you are able to control towers yourself and the bounty for units killed by your troops is not lost, but given to the owner of this killing unit. Additionally, you can upgrade your troops or increase the size of groups that spawn every 30 seconds. You can also add specialized units to your troops for one spawn, like catapults or the dragon hawk. That gives each team the opportunity to capture a victory without having high-level heros carrying expensive items.
Killing hostile troops the first time, you might think the bounty is a small joke - in case you are accustomed to the bounty for troops in DotA. Maybe you haven't seen the goldmine near your outpost already, being the main source for this raw material in the game. Another point is, that you will get bounty for hostile troops, heros or buildings without killing them with a hero directly. It also works if troops, you are owning do so. All in all, this will give a higher gold-gain as you may have expierienced it DotA matches.
And don't worry if you have a look at the shops. You won't need a single recipe to complete a nice item-build for your hero. Recipes are definitely the exception in this game. The disadvantage is, that you may need a long time until you are able to purchase at least one item with greater use, but as I already said: The gold gain in this game is quite good. All items are categorized in 4 diffent shops. There is the supply, the armor, the weapon and the magic merchant, all remaining near you outpost dircetly. Even if you play DoD the first time, you won't need long to find items making sense for your hero.
Finally I hope you enjoy this map, having many good games with a lot of good allies. Don't forget that this is just a game and there are people that do not play WC3 every day. Be kind to noobs and help them to understand the basics of DoD. It isn't that hard and you might perhaps also win with a whole bunch of beginners in your team. And please do not leave games on purpose. Sometimes you might be owned hard, but in case of that, just ask the other team for a fast finish, instead of leaving directly. Leaving has a lot more negative effects than destroying just one game. Developers - like me - lose a lot of time for creating a leaver-handling instead of improving the map itself. A lot of people will stop playing those maps, because every 2nd game is destroyed by leavers. Guys that are willing to play anyway, have to spend hours to found communities for leaver-free playing, just to see some good games. Please think about that before you press the 'Leave game' button the next time.
